Afternoon Dog Walkers
ORGANIZATION: Brown County Humane Society
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Brown County Humane Society is looking for volunteers to help us walk our wonderful dogs at the shelter in Nashville. Enjoy the outdoors with a canine companion on our 3-acre property, complete with barn, fenced in play area, and babbling brook. You might walk alone and help a shy dog gain confidence, or you could join a play group and teach the dogs to socialize properly. You'll also meet other volunteers and animal-lovers and get to know more about our wonderful shelter and programs.
Volunteers are required to commit to 3 hours minimum on the same day every week, for at least 3 months or more. Training will be provided!
Volunteers must feel comfortable and physically capable of handling most dogs (breeds and sizes). The majority of dogs in our shelter weigh an average of 50 pounds or more. Dog walking takes place year-round in all weather conditions.
Applicants should fill out our volunteer application online at: https://www.bchumane.org/volunteer/volunteer-application/

Mission Statement
The mission of the Brown County Humane Society is to be a community resource dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals in our county. We provide temporary shelter to pets in need and promote adoption of homeless pets into loving, permanent homes. We advocate respect for animals through public education concerning responsible pet ownership. We support and promote spaying and neutering to ultimately eliminate pet overpopulation in our community.
Description
The Brown County Humane Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing for the health and well-being of the animals of Brown County. We offer a number of services to promote animal health and education about their care.
BCHS operates an open-admission shelter for cats and dogs from Brown County. We are very proud to have an outstanding annual save rate of 95% or more since 2010. No animals in our care are euthanized unless they are deemed too dangerous to be in the community or are too ill and suffering from an illness that can't be treated. All adoptable animals stay with us until a home can be found.
BCHS also provides community programs such as low-cost spay/neuter services, annual rabies clinics, temporary pet food assistance for families in need, shelters for outdoor pets, trap-neuter-return for feral cat colonies, and educational programs.
