The Center of Concern is a non-profit social service agency offering and providing some of the following programs to individuals and families living in Cook County: Senior and Disabled Support services, Housing Solutions and Professional Service Counselors . The COC PROFESSIONAL programs offer to our clients (low income individuals or families near federal poverty income levels) access to professional income tax preparers who seek guidance and help to complete and submit their annual income tax return.

Volunteer income tax assistance is a program that provides tax preparation to benefit individual with low to moderate income, senior citizens, English speaking persons and individuals with disabilities. Professional volunteers play a vital role in helping and preparing only basic individual Federal and State tax returns and saving families money.

Requirements and Experience

  • Experience in some of the following: The IRS VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program; or TCEP Tax Counseling for the Elderly Person free program
  • Prior successful experience in pro bono project or volunteering would be helpful
  • A renewed IRS online PTIN Tax Return Preparer NUMBER
  • Experience and knowledge of proficiently working current TURBO TAX software
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years related experience (H&R Block, IRS, CPA or Accounting companies, State and/or Federal Government agencies.
  • Prefer member of Illinois CPA Society, licensed CPA preferred and/or member of AICPA.
  • In addition to checking references, COC will process a background check.



Education:
Require minimum bachelor’s degree in Finance Accounting; and prefer CPA Degree in the State of Illinois as well as having taken current Tax Preparation courses.

The Center's mission is to provide Housing Solutions, Support Services and Counseling for Seniors, Disabled and Other in Need, enabling them to live with dignity and independence.

Description

The Center of Concern, a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization, has responded to the needs of the disadvantaged in this community providing services to help Seniors, individuals and families maintain their independence with dignity, alleviate isolation, and promote physical and emotional well being.

The Center’s Program’s provide: Geriatric Counseling, Intergenerational initiatives, a Grief & Loss and Alzheimer Caregiver Support Group. All services are integral in the Center’s response to the growing needs of older residents. Our continuum of care begins with in-home assessments, and continues with ongoing elder care management and friendly visits, daily/weekly telephone reassurance, escort transportation, referrals for in-home health care, personal counseling and support groups, professional housing counseling, affordable housing solutions- home sharing, emergency homelessness prevention assistance, Rapid Re-Housing- timely resources and integrated practical counseling that includes: employment, legal, financial, Medicare/health insurance, money management, tax preparation, Power of Attorney for property and health.
