Volunteer a couple hours of your time for the young men & women entering the US Armed forces at the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) office in South Boston's Seaport at 495 Summer St. On Mon, Tues & Wed AM, these recruits, or "shippers" swear-in, shortly before heading to Logan airport and eventually the Bootcamp of their line of service. The Red Cross offers an emergency communication service for all of these troops before they ship. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to speak with these recruits and ask if they would like to enroll in our program. If a member of the soldier's family needs to get in touch with them while they are enlisted, the Red Cross will handle the logistics. The Red Cross has an official charter with the US government that allows the Red cross to handle communications as well as travel logistics if a soldier needs to come home. Make a difference in these soldiers lives in just a couple hours a week. Call 781-661-8582 for more details, or apply for MEPS Military Station Volunteer position at: https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org/?nd=recruitment_page&page_id=316

About American Red Cross - Massachusetts Region
Location:
101 Station Landing, Medford, MA 02155, US
Mission Statement
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Description
Every single day, the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies. Whether its one displaced family, thousands of disaster victims, or providing care and comfort to an ill or injured service member or veteran or support to a military family member, our vital work is made possible by people like you. It is through the time and care of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things. We operate the largest food pantry in New England, we empower volunteers as leaders of the organization, we offer training and support. Whether it is standing with a family on the sidewalk at a house fire to offer comfort and care or it is contacting someone in the armed services who has a new baby, the Red Cross is a gentle presence of compassion and assistance.
