Overview
This is a pro-bono volunteer position.
JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.
The Area manager is assigned a geographic area where she/he will be in charge of reaching out to the schools in that area and engaging with Middle Schools of interest that could benefit from our afterschool STEM programs for underserved middle school Girls. They manage a team of Community Managers, responsible for specific regions or specific schools
Responsibilities- Work with Community Engagement (COME) Team lead to define the strategy and targets for the incoming school year
- Research schools, identifies stakeholders (School admins) and locate their contacts
- Establish and maintain relationships with school liaisons in the region
- Collaborate with the College Engagement to ensure alignment between the Schools we reach out to and the Universities we source the volunteer college students from.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Engagement to ensure alignment between the Schools we reach out to and the Companies we seek sponsorship from.
- Attend virtual team meetings weekly : (Sundays 9pm EST)
- Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
- Ability to establish and maintain connections with area schools
- Resourceful, can-do attitude
- Experience with K-12 schools as a parent, former student professionally
- Outreach experience preferred-
- Experience with community outreach, relationship development, Not shy on phone or email.
- Comfort working in a 'virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)
- Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week

Mission Statement
JerseySTEM is a grassroots 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math ("STEM") education to girls grade 5-8 from underserved communities in New Jersey. We partner with socially responsible companies and their employees, youth organizations in underserved communities, and civic-minded college students and universities. Together we develop and deliver innovative, hands-on, and online afterschool projects and inquiry-based learning opportunities that develop teamwork, 21st-century problem-solving skills, and self-esteem.
Description
Incorporated in 2013, JerseySTEM started bringing afterschool enrichment programs to middle school girls in 2015.
We have since provided 1,000 students with exposure to afterschool enrichment programs delivering more than 20,000 hours of instruction. Students learn to code, build robots, solve problems and through that process gain self-esteem and confidence that they can be the leaders of tomorrow.
