Join us a volunteer to assist our staff and interns in gathering biodiversity data for our Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Program (NHIP). The Observatory has over 100 bird boxes in public spaces throughout Port Washington, Wisconsin that we are monitoring nesting activity, additionally we are surveying the vegetation surrounding our bird boxes to determine if clutch sizes of breeding birds have better survival in areas with higher densities of native vegetation.
Volunteers will learn native and nonnative plant species, and how to use standard forestry tools while surveying a 5-meter site surrounding one of our breeding bird boxes.

We are recruiting volunteers and community scientists to help us with the Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Project, which aims to improve residential areas for birds, pollinators, and water quality. There are a variety of options for how volunteers can help, participate in science, and learn more about our native plants, birds, and pollinators at the same time!

While you do not need to live in Port Washington, all activities are in Port Washington at this time. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering in other communities.
