**IMPORTANT INFO: This volunteer opportunity is only open to volunteers that live in Northern California within the AFSP Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter region (Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Solano, and Sonoma). The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is looking for volunteers to serve on the Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement. This Chapter Committee all aspects of the Chapter volunteer program including recruitment, engagement, orientation and support, informal evaluation, and recognition. This committee works with the other Committee Chairs to assess the volunteer needs of the Chapter and recruit and assign qualified members as needed.

Description
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
To fully achieve its mission, AFSP engages in the following Five Core Strategies:
- Funds scientific research
- Offers educational programs for professionals
- Educates the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention
- Promotes policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
- Provides programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people at risk, and involves them in the work of the Foundation

- Our Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement Committee meets on a monthly basis . Outside of monthly meetings, volunteers contribute anywhere from 2 to 10+ hours per week to committee efforts.
- You do not feed to be a professional to volunteer with us! We will train any individual that is passionate about preventing suicide and supporting survivors of suicide loss.
