The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is looking for Event Volunteers for the San Francisco Out of the Darkness Community Walk. The 2024 event will be on Saturday October 12 at Civic Center Park in Oakley (date and time subject to change). Since the Oakley Walk began in 2015, our volunteers have raised over $300,500 and registered over 4,000 walkers dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting survivors of loss in our community. Learn more about our AFSP Chapter at http://www.afsp.org/sfbayarea or contact us at sfbayarea@afsp.org for more information.
Day of Event Volunteer roles vary based on number of available volunteers and can include responsibilities such as set up, registration, rest stops, safety team, route support, food and beverage area, clean up, and other roles. **Volunteers and Groups of Volunteers under 18 years of age will need to attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Chaperone name and email must be confirmed in advance.**
The AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walks, held in hundreds of cities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost.
The health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers will be our top priorities as we make decisions about event details in our community, and we'll continue to offer options to participate online and in your neighborhoods.
Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide.
Become an AFSP volunteer in Oakley today and be part of the movement coming #TogetherToFightSuicide.
