Volunteers at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center (SWCC) play a very important role in our mission.
SWCC has volunteer programs in the following areas:
- Animal Care
- Educational Programs
- Trail Guides
- Events Only
- Grounds Quality
Prior experience is not necessary, although may be preferred. A sense of responsibility and dedication to the cause is essential. We request all volunteers be willing to commit to at least a 6-month timeframe with a minimum of 5 hours of service a week. A driver's license and your own transportation is a must.
Please note that your volunteer work will mostly be outdoors. We are a working sanctuary and volunteers will be exposed to outside elements.
All prospective volunteers will need to fill out an application and have attended a public tour of SWCC before being considered. Please note that we receive hundreds of applications each year, and we cannot invite every applicant in for an informational/interview session. Interview sessions are scheduled on an as-needed basis but usually 2 to 3 times a year. Outstanding applications may be fast-tracked to help fill a need in any of our volunteer areas.
Attendance at one of our public tours is a pre-requisite to submitting a volunteer application.
Please note that all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, and no pets or children will be allowed on site while volunteering.

Mission Statement
Saving our wildlife, one life at a time. Southwest Wildlife rescues, rehabilitates, and releases injured, displaced, and orphaned wildlife. Wildlife education includes advice on living with wildlife and the importance of native wildlife to healthy ecosystems. Educational and humane scientific research opportunities are offered in the field of conservation medicine. Sanctuary is provided to animals that cannot be released back to the wild.
Description
Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center (SWCC) rescues native wild animals that have lost their homes to development, or are found injured, orphaned, or abandoned. When possible, the animals in our care are rehabilitated and released - healthy and wild - back where they belong.
Those animals that could not survive in the wild can live out their lives at our accredited sanctuary. We don’t buy, breed, sell or trade animals, nor are the animals for hire or used for commercial purposes.
We are proud of our contribution to the recovery of an endangered species - the Mexican gray wolf. As a holding facility, we offer space at our sanctuary to care for part of the captive population of this rare wolf and participate as a member of the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP).
Southwest Wildlife shares its knowledge and passion about animals through education. We hope not only to educate but also to inspire people to learn about and respect our wildlife and conserve its habitat.
