Our mission is to protect the rights of seniors in nursing facilities and assisted living homes.
Description
The Office of the Long Term Care Ombudsman identifies, investigates and resolves complaints made by or on behalf of Alaskan's who are 60 years of age or older.
The Ombudsman Can:
- Investigate and resolve complaints.
- Visit facilities to meet with residents and evaluate conditions.
- Ensure that residents are receiving legal, financial, social, medical, rehabilitative and other services to which they are entitled.
- Act as mediator between residents, family members, facility staff, and long term care service providers.
- Provide information to the public about long term care facilities and programs.
- Assist with the establishment of resident and family councils.
- Represent residents' interests before local, state, and federal government by working to change laws, regulations and policies that affect those who live in long term care settings such as nursing homes and assisted living homes.

- Background Check
- Must be at least 18
- Orientation or Training
- Complete 18 hours of classroom training, complete 6-10 hours of facility visits with staff, complete 1 visit to a facility per month, attend our monthly training for 1.5 hours. Give a 1 year commitment.
- Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and cannot be an owner or employee of an assisted living home or nursing home. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check.
