Tax preparation volunteers donate their time to make sure those with limited incomes are able to complete tax returns in a timely fashion, enabling them to receive proper tax credits and refunds. After certification training, provide basic tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers. Volunteers will provide free, high-quality service and uphold the highest of ethical standards to establish public trust.

SKILLS:

• Tax training and certification will be provided. No prior tax preparation experience is necessary - just a desire to learn.

• Willingness to share time, skills, and interests. Required time commitment of at least 4 hours per week throughout tax season.

• Basic computer skills for inputting tax return information.

• Work with the public in a helpful and supportive manner.

• Interviewing skills training will be provided as needed.

• Friendly, dependable, and flexible.

• Bilingual volunteers a plus (Spanish, Korean, Chinese, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend tax law training, including training on the use of electronic filing software.

• Successfully pass IRS certification test on required tax law knowledge.

• Interview client regarding all income, deductions and allowable credit(s).

• Provide high-quality assistance to all taxpayers.

• Directly prepare the taxpayer's return based on information provided by the taxpayer.

• Answer tax related questions.

• Greet taxpayers as they enter the facility

• Prepare tax returns using electronic filing software (wherever possible).

OTHER:

• High school students encouraged to apply

• Applicants w/ no drivers license encouraged to apply as long as one has reliable transportation

• TIME: Evenings, Weekends (e.g. M-F- 4p-8p, Sat./Sun 10a-2pm) (know that times may change and ability to work remote is available; volunteers sign-up for shifts that are convenient for their schedule
