The Matthew 25 Tool Library is a community resource that provides easy and affordable access to a variety of tools. Our library has an extensive collection of unique hand and power tools from miter, jig and chain saws to power washers and paint sprayers. We try to have a tool for every job and more importantly, provide this service for everyone as part of our larger nonprofit efforts. Many of these tools are used for our other home repair projects with volunteer groups! We are searching for enthusiastic volunteers with strong familiarity of tools to help sustain this vital program.

Summary: The Tool Library Volunteer will provide ongoing support alongside fellow volunteers in maintaining day-to-day operations in the Tool Library. Tasks include but are not limited to assessing donated tools, helping customers complete their checkouts, and organizing inventory. Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the health of people and neighborhoods by investing in quality affordable housing, healthy food, educational opportunities, and community building. We envision thriving, connected communities with sharing economies, where all people are valued, talents are multiplied, and neighbors live healthy, nourished lives full of opportunity.

Description

Matthew 25 improves the health of people and neighborhoods by investing in four main pillars: quality affordable housing, healthy food, educational opportunities, and community building. This is done through a range of programs including:

  • Groundswell Cafe: A pay-it-forward eatery where everyone has access to fresh, healthy food, regardless of their ability to pay.
  • Cultivate Hope Urban Farm: The first urban farm in Iowa, where we grow fresh fruits and vegetables without pesticides or herbicides, using sustainable practices. We also offer community garden plots where individuals can grow their own food.
  • Cultivate Hope Corner Store: A small, nonprofit grocery store owned and operated by Matthew 25. Our vision is to make this community grocery store a vibrant space that brings neighbors together and provides a convenient location for healthy food in a food desert neighborhood.
  • Tool Library: A collection of tools and supplies made available to community members and organizations to maintain and improve their homes, gardens and communities.
  • Transform Week: An annual event during which we connect volunteers with homeowners to take on maintenance and repair projects that the homeowners aren't able to do on their own.
