ORGANIZATION: Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS NY)

Meet Theo!
Theo is a super sweet and energetic cavapoo puppy who loves to go on walks. His guardian uses a walker and is unable to walk Theo on her own.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a once weekly dog walking shift for this family!

If you enjoy spending time with both people and pets, PAWS NY offers wonderful opportunities for our volunteers to provide direct services to our clients who are living with a physical illness or disability, mainly through our Housecall Program. Volunteers provide help with dog walking, litter box maintenance, transportation to/from the vet, and other pet-related tasks our clients struggle to do on their own.

In order to begin providing services, all volunteers are required to attend an orientation. We are flexible in terms of the level of commitment, and welcome all interested individuals to attend an orientation session to learn more about our work. You will learn more about PAWS NY and the services you will ultimately provide to our clients. *Please note that proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to participate.

We're currently offering virtual volunteer orientations. We hope you'll join us!

Check out website at www.pawsny.org/volunteer to sign up for a volunteer training!

About Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS NY)

Location:

240 Kent Avenue, 2nd Floor, NEW YORK, NY 11249, US

Mission Statement

The mission of PAWS NY is to preserve, support, and nurture the human-animal bond for New York City’s most vulnerable residents. Our programs help keep pets in their homes while protecting and promoting the bond that is so physically and psychologically valuable to our clients. Thus, our motto: helping people by helping pets.

Description

Our services enable people and pets to stay together through thick and thin.

Housecall Program: This is our core program through which PAWS NY provides on-site home visits to our clients. Visits may include: dog walking, litter maintenance, provision of food and water, transportation to/from the vet, and grooming. We can also provide emergency and/or foster care if an existing client unexpectedly finds himself in the hospital.

PAWS Pet Pantry: PAWS NY partners with food banks and food delivery services, and distributes pet food and supplies on a limited basis to people who are having trouble buying food for their pets. We evaluate each client on a case-by-case basis and offer services accordingly.

Referral Network: In addition to offering information and services directly, we often find situations where we can assist clients or other interested individuals by helping them access other community resources. As such, we make referrals to organizations that provide relevant free or low-cost services.
