Fully remote volunteer opportunity for people passionate about improving STEM education around the world!
School for a Village (S4V) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bridging the gap in STEM education for underserved secondary schools around the world through need-specific, targeted support.
- We partner with schools in Kenya and India to provide students with necessary educational resources, enhance learning outcomes, and expand STEM education.
- Examples of our past work include building science laboratories for secondary school students in Bahjoi, India, and designing and delivering design thinking boot camps at various schools across Kenya, impacting over 2000 students through our efforts.
- S4V chapter leaders initiate local chapter organizations within their high schools, universities, or communities. These chapters promote S4V and raise funds for our projects.
- S4V ambassadors work individually to promote S4V and raise funds.
- Chapters and ambassadors are paired with a specific project they are excited to support through fundraising.
- Volunteer hours will be signed for chapter leaders or ambassadors in good standing with the organization.
Chapter Leaders or Ambassadors will play a critical role in the success of our organization by representing us in your local community and leading fundraising and outreach efforts.

Mission Statement
School for a Village is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bridging the gap in science and technology education through need-specific support. We work with secondary schools around the world to promote digital inclusion and quality education. We recognize each school exists within its own unique social and cultural context, and therefore may face unique challenges. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. As a result, we work very closely with individual schools and community members to assess a school’s needs. We believe that the people living in our target communities know best what their communities need - so we develop and implement solutions together. We hope to amplify existing solutions and programs, and ensure that we are getting them to where they are needed most.

Some examples projects include:
- Vidya Mandir School serves 700+ secondary school students from Bahjoi and the surrounding regions. School for a Village established 3 fully-furnished science laboratories for chemistry, biology, and physics.
- Daraja Academy is a boarding school serving 120+ girls experiencing material poverty. Students come to Daraja Academy from diverse geographic, tribal, and religious backgrounds with vastly different levels of competency in English and Science. School for a Village partnered with Choosito!, an NSF-funded student search engine and digital library, to bring high-quality, personalized resources to Daraja students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, School for a Village provided mobile devices, enabling girls to engage in remote learning.
- Iembeni Secondary School is a public school serving 120+ students from Iembeni Village. School for a Village has provided calculators, geometric sets, and laboratory equipment, enabling Iembeni Secondary School students to complete the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for the first time.
