Position Description: Are you an animal lover with a heart for our furry friends? The Humane Society of Washington County is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our team as Compassionate Dog Walkers. As a dog walker volunteer, you'll play a vital role in providing exercise, socialization, and love to our shelter dogs, making their time in our care more enjoyable and increasing their chances of finding forever homes.
Position Responsibilities:
Walking and Exercising Dogs: As a dog walker volunteer, you'll take our shelter dogs on leisurely strolls around our beautiful facility, ensuring they get the exercise and mental stimulation they need.
Socialization: Spend quality time with our dogs, offering them companionship, petting, and affection. Building trust and bonds with our canine residents is essential for their well-being.
Observation and Reporting: Keep an eye out for any changes in a dog's behavior, health, or demeanor, and promptly report any concerns to our staff.
Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe environment for the dogs by picking up after them and ensuring their kennels are in order.
Assist with Adoption Events: You may have the opportunity to represent the shelter and our dogs at adoption events, where you can share their stories and help potential adopters find their perfect match.
Qualifications:
- A genuine love for dogs and a commitment to their well-being.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Comfortable with dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and guidelines provided by the Humane Society.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction from shelter staff.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Time Commitment: Volunteer dog walkers are needed seven days a week. We appreciate any time you can spare, whether it's a few hours a week or a more frequent commitment. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate your availability.
