Companionship is the provision of emotional and social support through one-on-one or group interaction with the senior participants. Volunteers will work with older adults who have cognitive and physical disabilities.
Volunteers will interact with the participants by:
- Engaging them in casual conversation
- Assisting with or facilitating diversional activities: board games, cognitive exercises, team sports, chair aerobics and group exercises, arts & crafts, discussion-based activities, etc.
- Enhancing the participants' engagement in planned activities
- Enhancing the participants' interactions in a social setting

Description
The NWFWC is a non-profit women-led organization involved in senior, youth, and community programming.
The organization administers the Sylvia L. Poitier and Theodora S. Williams Senior Center which contains the Irma E. Allen Adult Day Care Program for participants with physical and cognitive disabilities include Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias. The Senior Center also houses a recreational program for the independent senior population. Participants benefit from activities including arts and crafts, board/card games, brain exercises, guided physical exercise, educational classes on topics such as health & wellness and technology, special events, field trips, and shopping assistance trips. Meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks) and transportation are provided daily, and a licensed practical nurse is on duty daily to monitor participants’ physical condition and well-being.
