  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Martin Luther King, Jr., National Holiday is on the third Monday of each January. In 2024, it is on Monday, January 15. It is a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. It is a day to engage with your community and create constructive action and act on Dr. King’s legacy of social justice and equity.

West Tuality Habitat for Humanity will be hosting volunteers on January 15, 9 to noon, in an event we have created especially for the day:

  • The day will start with volunteers learning about Martin Luther King, Jr., about the King’s Center’s connections to Habitat for Humanity, and Habitat’s commitment to equity and social justice through its advocacy for access to decent, affordable housing.

  • Volunteers will learn about the variety of ways they can volunteer with West Tuality Habitat throughout 2024 in our home construction, critical home repairs, neighborhood cleanups, events and program delivery.

  • Volunteers will then get to go through a special tool clinic, to learn how to use a variety of construction and repair tools, from how to properly hammer a nail to using power saws. Volunteers will then use these skills to make Spring planter box kits that the ReStore will sell. Sales will fund the building & repairing of homes in our local community.

We ask for a $10 registration fee per volunteer to cover materials and other expenses, but are happy to waive the fee if needed - we want anyone who wants to participate to join us! Please note that there are just 30 spots available. Register here.

You must be 16 to participate. Volunteers who are 16 or 17 must have written parents' approval to volunteer. You can volunteer as an individual or as a group in association with the MLK Day of Service. Please note when you sign up if you are representing a group that wants to volunteer and approximately how many are in that group.

If you sign up to participate via VolunteerMatch, you will receive an email that asks you to go to a page on our web site and register.
