We are recruiting for two volunteer roles within our Education & Outreach committee. Both are focused on community outreach and engagement to connect people with our hands on lab skills education programs, but in different ways. POSITION: EVENT ADVERTISING COORDINATOR FOR E&O

Responsibilities: As an Event Advertising Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in promoting our educational events and workshops. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating with the Workshop Coordinator and Course Instructors to advertise upcoming events on various online platforms, including:

    • MeetUp, EverOut | Seattle, Eventbrite, Seattle Weekly Events Calendar, and Greater Seattle on the Cheap.

  • Engaging with local schools, specifically middle and high schools, as well as community colleges, to ensure they are informed about our events. This can be achieved through direct outreach to biology and biotech teachers, distributing flyers in person, and actively participating in online forums for life sciences students in the greater Seattle area.

  • Attend monthly Education & Outreach committee meetings (1 hour monthly).

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for our mission and a genuine interest in science education.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with online event advertising platforms.

POSITION: OUTREACH & PRIVATE EVENT COORDINATOR FOR E&O

Responsibilities: As an Outreach & Private Event Coordinator, you will be instrumental in building connections and fostering partnerships with local organizations, particularly those that serve students from Title-I schools or marginalized groups in STEM. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to inquiries regarding private workshops and events..

  • Re-establishing and nurturing relationships with local organizations that primarily serve students from underprivileged backgrounds or marginalized groups in STEM.

  • Coordinating with our lab manager or workshop coordinator to handle logistics for events, including scheduling, venue selection, volunteer requirements, and necessary supplies.

  • Attend monthly Education & Outreach committee meetings (1 hour monthly).

Qualifications:

  • Higher education or professional experience in life sciences.

  • Commitment to our organization's mission of promoting STEM education and equity.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

  • Experience in partnership development or community outreach is a plus.

SoundBio Lab is a community of amateur and professional science enthusiasts dedicated to promoting science education, providing access to biotechnology, and fostering self-learning in order to promote science understanding and inspire the next generation of scientists.

Description

SoundBio is a small DIY biology focused, volunteer run organization in Seattle. We provide workshops and resources to help spread the DIY biology movement and inspire scientific curiousity. SoundBio sits on three mission-critical legs: building community within DIY biology, enhancing and promoting public science, and facilitating public access to biotechnology equipment and space.

Each person and their ideas at SoundBio is treated with respect to foster inclusiveness and enthusiasm for science.

  • These roles could be performed remotely, but a volunteer based in the Seattle area, who is willing to meet physically at our U-district lab space or with partners in the region will find the work easier and likely more rewarding.
