Sail Demonstration Crew
ORGANIZATION: National Park Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
From June to October, on the second Saturday of the month, from 11:00 to 12:30, we set the mizzen staysail aboard the NHL Landmark sailing vessel Balclutha with the help of visitors. From October to June, we overhaul the sail and gear. Learn the commands, how to work effectively as a crew, and raise your voice in a shanty as we all haul together in this simple shipboard evolution. Then learn basic canvas work, block repair, and how to rig this simple sail system. A one year commitment of one Saturday a month is required to join this crew.
