ORGANIZATION: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City/CSSNY

Do you have a desire to give back creatively? Are you gifted in music, art, dance, yoga, etc and want an opportunity to share that? Are you 55+ and looking for ways to give back? Well, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is looking for folks to serve as Recreational Volunteers with one of their partners in the Bronx. A loving home for those receiving therapy for addiction and mental health issues, this partner is looking to give volunteers an opportunity to lead a number of workshops, of their choosing, for the residents of this home. Their hope is to be able to provide these workshops to volunteers on a monthly or bi-weekly basis, once or twice a week.

Mission Statement

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.

Description

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
