Free Tax Preparers directly support individuals and families working towards achieving economic well-being. Tax preparers work with individuals and families to complete tax returns.
Not a tax expert? No problem! We have volunteer roles for all interests. We provide live and asynchronous virtual training (November - January) and on-going support. To be a great volunteer, you just need to be:
- Personable and friendly
- Comfortable working with a diverse group of clients
- Willing to ask questions
- Comfortable using a computer if preparing taxes
- Curious about learning new skills
- Willing to adhere to high ethical standards
As an added bonus, continuing education credits are available for Attorneys, EAs, CPAs, CFPs, and IRS AFSP non-credentialed tax return preparers!
United Way of Greater Cincinnati believes all families in our region deserve economic well-being. Every year more than 400 individuals volunteer their time to Free Tax Prep sites providing services to families and individuals striving to reach that objective.

United Way of Greater Cincinnati was founded in 1915. The annual fundraising campaign became a partnership with American Red Cross, Cincinnati Area Chapter, in 1956. Today the organization covers ten counties: Hamilton, Brown, Butler and Clermont in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, Grant, and Kenton in Northern Kentucky; and Dearborn and Ohio counties in Southeast Indiana.
