We are looking for volunteers who want to make a difference in Elementary School children’s academic success by providing free tutoring assistance in mathematics. These positions provide an opportunity to expand your tutoring skills with real one-on-one training of students who need that extra help to become superstar students. You will help children learn the fundamentals of mathematics and improve their SOL scores. You will be part of a professional Team that helps children have a positive educational journey. Our mission is to seek out resources to support a successful educational experience for all.
Our tutoring program offers one-on-one tutoring sessions during the school year to students identified by the school teachers and administration as needing help with a specific academic subject where a student is struggling. Our goal is to offer a free tutoring program for elementary school students who are struggling academically. We work to identify specific areas of tutoring support required for each student based on current subject weaknesses and SOL scores. Our goal is to improve the student’s fundamentals in mathematics so that they are achieving academic success and to improve the SOL scores of the students showing academic retention and improved learning through evidence-based tutoring. Our Christmas for Kids program is for disadvantaged families located in our community and that have small children. For the past three years, Cooke Elementary has provided our organization with a list of children (and siblings) who, in turn, received both toys and clothing. We have been able to successfully provide 111 kids (40 families) in our community with Christmas gifts. The number of children may seem small but the task of bringing the program to realization is no small feat, and this particular program has brought tons of joy to those children who would not have experienced Christmas during those years. Our goal is to expand the Christmas for Kids program to other elementary schools in the community.
