If you are comfortable with everyday tasks that require reading, writing, math, or technology, consider becoming a volunteer tutor with the Amador County Library Literacy Program!
Tutors receive training and tutoring materials tailored to their learners’ needs. Our literacy coordinator matches tutors with learners based on tutors' skill sets and learners' goals, and assists tutor-learner teams as requested to help ensure rewarding experiences.
Possible goals include but are not limited to:
- pay bills
- improve reading, writing and math skills for the workplace
- study for an exam
- complete a resume
- read a book to a family member
- obtain a high school diploma or equivelent
Volunteer at a time or place that's convenient for you, in-person or virtual. Many tutor-learner pairs opt to meet at our main library in Jackson, where we have a designated literacy nook, or at an Amador County Library branch.

Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
