We at Colby’s Army care about all living things. Truly care. If you care too then you can become a soldier in our "army". Colby's Army offers Therapeutic Riding and Equine Assisted Learning on-site in Ashland City as well as support for those in West Nashville who are experiencing homelessness. Ultimately, our mission is to help people with life challenges through outreach and interactions with animals and nature. We'd love to have you join us!
Lesson Assistants and Participant Support volunteers work directly with our lesson participants in mounted and unmounted activities. Some lessons are in our garden or other areas of our farm, and some involve horses. Working with our participants can be the most rewarding thing you will do here at our learning center! Lesson Assistants will be working alongside the PATH-certified instructor to take care of random needs like moving a cone out of the way, or running to the barn to grab fly spray. As Participant Support you’d be walking alongside our horse and rider to sure they’re staying balanced or providing support during unmounted activities.
Volunteers will need to complete horse handling training, leader and sidewalker training, or our non-equine general lesson assistant training. Our 50-minute lesson times are set according to the participants’ schedules and may be adjusted if needed due to weather.
To volunteer with Colby's Army, you must first complete a brief online training and come visit our facility for a tour. To work as a Lesson Assistant you will also need to complete additional in-person training. We look forward to hearing from you!

A sustainable farm-based learning center in Ashland City, Tennessee, Colby's Army uses therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities to provide learning opportunities for veterans, homeless and recently housed, people with disabilities, and others with life challenges. Our organic garden feeds hungry people and we perform homeless outreach by giving backpacks stocked with toiletries, first aid, and street supplies to those in need. Individually we make a difference, together we are changing the world!
