Our hospice volunteers visit terminally ill patients (and their families) that have a prognosis of 6 months or less to live. This can be a very difficult and challenging time in the lives of not only the patients but their loved ones as well. Volunteers provide an invaluable service by going to visit and offering different acts of service, some of which include: socializing, respite sitting(sitting with the patient while the caregiver takes a break), reading/story telling, playing games, being a listening ear, light house keeping, or even just being present to hold a patients hand.
There are a great number of things that volunteers can do to provide an opportunity for our patients to feel seen, heard, loved and validated.
