Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Prairie Dog Mapping
Are you interested in collecting data? Join the Open Space team and be a part of the collection of data that will serve the City for years to come.
GIS Volunteers are responsible for mapping the footprint of all prairie dog colonies in the City of Westminster open space areas. In addition, they will be counting and logging the number of prairie dog burrows and individual prairie dogs in these open spaces. Volunteers will map the colony boundary by walking predetermined sections of open space and log observations into an iPad using GIS technology provided by the City. Prairie dogs will be viewed from a distance, binoculars are recommended and will be supplied by the City. Volunteers will work alongside other volunteers and Open Space staff to complete this project.
