CAREing Paws would love to have someone to help manage our onsite reading programs at the Tyrone Public Library! Our program is the 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 3:30-4:30pm, except for April, August, and December.
The manager would greet the children and their families when they arrive and get them signed in. If the parents have not already signed a permission slip/ photo release form, you'd facilitate getting the necessary signatures.
If the child has arrived early, you can direct them to pick out a book to read to the dog, or to color a picture for the dog. If the child has younger siblings who aren't eligible to read to the dog yet, we have activities for them too.
Once the child is done reading to the dog, you'd help get them signed up for their next appointment, punch their frequent reader card, and if they've earned a FREE book - facilitate that with the handler.
Often people see the dog in the library and want more information about our program and how to get involved. You'd answer questions and hand out information as appropriate.
Other duties may include keeping the handlers on time, recruiting new readers, or setting up/ packing up before and after the read sessions.
Note: If you can speak Spanish, that would be especially helpful!
