Purpose of Services:

Volunteers provide customer-focused programs, services and amenities to our Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Medical Office Buildings. The volunteers provide an extra dimension of care and service to our members, families, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

• Hold, rock, sooth babies.
• Introduce self as Baby Cuddler volunteer.
• Greet visitors as they enter the room and personally escort
• Spend quality time interacting with patients, families and visitors.
• Offer hydration, snacks, magazines; newspapers and books to family members.

Qualifications/Physical Requirements:

• Have a pleasant, friendly attitude and a sincere interest in the work to be done to serve our patients, visitors, staff, and guests.
• Demonstrates maturity and sound judgment.
• Demonstrates compassion and understanding.
• Works effectively with staff, members, visitors, physicians, and other volunteers.
• Understands and applies laws, regulations and policy and procedures regarding compliance as well as privacy and confidentiality.

FYI:

1. You must complete our general volunteer onboarding process which includes an interview, a background check, health screening, online trainings, and a 2-hour virtual orientation. This takes most volunteers 6-8 weeks to complete. Completing the onboarding process does not guarantee placement as a NICU volunteer.
2. You must spend at minimum, 6 weeks in our Guest Guide role. In this role, you must show excellent attendance, professionalism, and good communication. After completing 6 weeks of service, you may then sign up to interview for our Cuddler Program.
3. If you successfully pass the interview you will need to attend a virtual, 1 hour training and a hands-on 1.5 hour training in the NICU.

Please also note the following:

• Cuddlers MAY NOT have acrylic, gel, press on, or false nails
• The NICU baby cuddler program is only available at the San Diego Medical Center
• Shifts are 3 hours long, 7 days a week between 8am-8pm.
• There are times when no babies are available for holding. To avoid unnecessary trips, you will be asked to call one hour before your shift to inquire if your service is needed.
