Adult Bigs, age 18 or older, provide Littles between grades K-12 with one-to-one time and attention with activities or education in local schools during the child’s lunch break or enrichment hour. Matches in this program will meet either weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the program schedule for the site, and will always meet at the site location.

This program previously served a large majority of BBBS of South Central Indiana's matches prior to the 2020 COVID shut down. Once the shut down happened, many of the site-based programs either switched to virtually programming or closed completely. Now the programs are starting again, and we are in need of volunteers!

We always like volunteers to know that prior to becoming a volunteer you must complete the following to ensure we can make the best fit for you surrounding your match -

  1. Online training
  2. Online application packet (all permission forms and submission of references)
  3. Volunteer Interview
  4. Clearances & References

Mission Statement

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana we have a simple and clear mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships to ignite the power and promise of youth.

Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities. And we couldn’t do any of it without you. For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child has the ability to reach their full potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

A Big Brothers Big Sisters’ match is carefully administered and held to the strictest standards. Agencies strive for matches that are not only safe and well suited to each child’s needs, but also harmonious and built to last. But don’t just think of us as simply matchmakers. We provide ongoing support and supervision to the Big, the Little, and the Little’s family. We offer training and guidance to help ensure that the matches have the best possible outcomes.

We have two programs available this year at Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana - the Community Based and Site Based programs.
