A common thread essential to humans throughout our lives is companionship. Companionship is the one "ask" people utilizing hospice care mention they would like to have more of.
As a Life Companion, you appreciate that a person in hospice wants to continue to live a wholehearted life and would benefit from the gift of camaraderie! For a few hours each week, you will get to spend quality time with a Uni Care Hospice patient currently living independently or in an Assisted Living, Memory Care, or Skilled Nursing Facility, who might not otherwise have a friend visit often.
Life Companions might join the patient to do an activity hosted by the facility, listen to their favorite music, play a card or board game, take a stroll with them down memory lane, and most importantly, be there to share the experience of life!
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide companionship to a person in hospice care.
- Be creative and open to learning.
- Listen and observe attentively to get to know the person you are visiting.
- Share mutual interests, conversation, and mealtimes with patient.
- Collaborate with hospice staff and interdisciplinary team for training, mentoring, and to provide continuity of service to the patient.
Scheduling Visits:
Varies depending on the patient’s needs and your availability.When matching you to a patient, volunteer services staff will take into consideration your schedule, location, and similar interests.

Description
At Uni Care Hospice, our care focuses on all aspects of an individual’s life and well-being when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to curative treatment. While patients are supported by impactful comfort care, nature is gently allowed to take its course. We are also here to support caregivers and family members.
Depending upon the individual circumstances of our patients and families, Uni Care Hospice may provide any combination of the following care services to provide the best patient-centered care.
You don’t need to go through this alone. We are here for you with Nursing Care; Social Services; Physician Services; Spiritual Support and Counseling; Hospice Aides; Trained Volunteer Support; Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies; Respite Care; Inpatient Care; Bereavement Support.
As a Level Three Partner in the We Honor Veterans* program, it is an honor to provide care and services for our Veterans and their families. We care for Veterans by recognizing their service and the impact that their service may have at the end of life.The Uni Care Hospice team realizes our Veteran patients may experience service-related diseases or illnesses that may affect them from both clinical and benefits perspectives. As a result, care is tailored to meet these needs.
Our Veteran patients are recognized with certificates of service and pinning ceremonies as well as being offered Veteran memorial services.
