Q: What is an IHSS Volunteer?
A: In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a division within DPSS. The IHSS program provides in-home assistance to eligible aged, blind, and disabled individuals as an alternative to out-of-home care and enables recipients to remain safely in their own homes.
Q: Where are volunteers assigned at DPSS - IHSS?
A: Currently DPSS is looking for volunteers to assist at our IHSS offices. DPSS has 7 IHSS offices located throughout LA County. Volunteers could be assigned to work at any IHSS office depending on the interest and skill set of the volunteer and the needs of the IHSS offices.
Q: What duties do volunteers perform at IHSS?
A: Volunteers can choose from variety of projects but are ultimately responsible for assisting staff as necessary.
Q: Why should I volunteer at IHSS?
A: Volunteers at IHSS perform critical duties to support the difficult and complex work of assisting elderly and disabled individuals, as well as their providers (or caretakers). Volunteers strengthen communities and positively impact the lives of our elderly and disabled community. Volunteers enjoy a sense of fulfillment and purpose from knowing that they are performing meaningful work.
*Fingerprinting, live scanning and brief orientation is required.
