Outreach-Feed6 is seeking strong, fit individuals who are comfortable lifting up to 33 pounds to serve as logistics support for our meal packaging events. Duties include assisting in set-up of events; organization and handling of meal supplies; stocking and restocking production lines, lifting, carrying, and handling boxes containing completed meals; and assisting in event closedown. We host about a dozen events each year in collaboration with churches, schools, corporations, and organizations such as chambers of commerce or Rotary, at which hundreds of volunteers gather to packaging tens of thousands of meals in small teams of 10 to 12 per production line. Most of our events are within a thirty minute drive from O'Hare, and most are in suburban communities with ample free parking. This logistics position is essential in ensuring high quality and quantitative performance during the event. Each event typically lasts about 7 hours - with set-up normally at 7AM and clean-up complete by 2:00PM or 2:30PM. We provide complimentary morning refreshments and a light lunch for those attending the entire event. Events are frequently on Saturdays, but can occur mid-week. Candidates are not required to work every event, but hopefully will be available for most. We will provide the training. Good communication and customer courtesy skills are essential as well as physical conditioning. For those who commit to serve with us, we will. provide a reed Feed6 T-shirt, red Feed6 apron and a black chef hat during the events so as to distinguish our support staff from the packaging volunteers.
More about us....
The mission of The Outreach Program is to provide safe water, food, medical care, and education to those in need, at home and abroad. Outreach is an internationally respected 501C3 ( outreachprogram.org) (EIN: 20-0636360) that is based in Iowa (Outreach Inc., 301 Center Street, P.O. Box 361, Union IA 50258), is accredited by Charity Navigator, and has been honored by two US Presidents at the White House as the recipient of the 5,000th 'Point of Light Award' from the Points of Light Foundation. Since its formation in 2004 by Founders Kathy and Floyd Hammer, Outreach has packaged and distributed over 720 million meals to those in need. Outreach’s Chicago-based affiliate, Feed6 ( www.Feed6.org), was co-founded in 2011 by Bill Kanatas and Chris Coyne as an expression of their support for food insecure children, families, seniors, and veterans. Feed6 is not a 501C3, but operates under the umbrella of Outreach as its all-volunteer planning and hosting facilitator for meal packaging events in the Chicago area. Feed6 has worked with scores of local schools, churches, corporations, civic organizations such as Rotary, and chambers of commerce-and tens of thousands of volunteers-to package and distribute over 6 million nutrient-rich meals throughout the Chicago area. All meals have been designed by food scientists at Iowa State University to be nutritionally richer than that comparably purchased at a store. All of our meal bags are heat sealed to ensure a shelf-life of up to two years, and specifically labeled with the date and lot-number of the packaging event. Over the last 12 years, Feed6-Outreach has hosted 124 powerful, celebratory events in the Chicago area, each packaging tens of thousands of delicious entrees of Mac & Cheese or Pasta Tomato Basil Sauce, bringing people of all backgrounds and demographics together in heart-filled, giving, caring experiences to support local neighbors in need. Through our innovative mobile food packaging program, Feed6-Outreach organizes meal packaging events - in church halls, school gyms, hotel ballrooms, corporate headquarters, and conference centers - drawing hundreds, sometimes thousands of volunteers, each prepared to donate time to package nutritious, protein and vitamin enriched meals for the hungry. Funds are raised by our sponsoring partners themselves - or through grants and donors. Packaged meals are distributed through local soup kitchens and community pantries, or through Feeding America’s Chicago Food Depository or Northern Illinois Food Bank to those most in need.

Mission Statement
Through our innovative mobile food packaging program, Outreach/Feed6 organizes meal packaging events - in church halls, school gyms, hotel ballrooms, corporate headquarters, and conference centers - drawing hundreds, sometimes thousands of volunteers, each prepared to donate a couple of hours to package nutritious, protein and vitamin enriched meals for the hungry. Volunteers are organized into small group assembly lines, preparing delicious, nutritious meals that are bagged, labeled, weighed, heat-sealed, and boxed employing strictly observed safety and hygienic precautions and COVID guidelines. These are extraordinary spirit-enriching events of giving and caring in which any one of any age or background can participate and extend love to those in need. Packaged meals are distributed through local soup kitchens and community pantries to those most in need.
Description
In 2011 Bill Kanatas and Chris Coyne co-founded the Feed6 (www.Feed6.org) movement in the Chicago area as an expression of their support for local hungry and food insecure children, families, seniors, and veterans. Over the years they have attracted dozens of corporations, congregations, civic organizations, and schools as financial and hosting partners - and tens of thousands of volunteers - to package and distribute 5 million nutritious meals to neighbors in need.
All of this work has been done in partnership with the internationally respected 501(C)(3) charity, Outreach (www.outreachprogram.org) which is accredited by Charity Navigator and has been specifically honored at the White House by two US Presidents. Over the years, Feed6-Outreach has hosted hundreds of powerful celebratory events, each packaging tens of thousands of meals, bringing people of all backgrounds together in heart-filled, giving, caring experiences and preparing nutritious meals for local neighbors in need. Since 2004, Outreach has been responsible for the packaging and distribution of over 580 million meals.
