Duties:
- Report major trail hazards (downed trees, worsening or major erosion, etc.) to the supervisor
- Remove invasive plant species on the trail using hand-pruners and loppers
- Provide general information to visitor and answering their inquiries on the trail
- General trash pick-up along designated trails
Length of Service:
Position will run throughout the year. Volunteer is expected to be available at least 4 hours per week, but may serve additional time if their availability and needs of the program allow it.
Lodging:
• Please note that housing is not available for this position
Tools, Equipment, & Vehicles:
- Basic hand tools (training will be provided on tools used within this position)
Location:
Specific location will vary, but will be limited to the various established trails within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
Qualifications:
- Ability to safely navigate trails within the park using designated park maps
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal)
- Ability to hike over steep, uneven, rocky, and sometimes slippery terrain
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions to include cold and hot weather, rain, smoke, and snow
Uniform:
This is a uniformed position. VIP Program Manager will provide required uniform pieces and nametag.

- Environmental hazards (poison oak, wildlife/insect bites and stings, etc.)
