Duties:

• Report major trail hazards (downed trees, worsening or major erosion, etc.) to the supervisor
• Remove invasive plant species on the trail using hand-pruners and loppers
• Provide general information to visitor and answering their inquiries on the trail
• General trash pick-up along designated trails

Length of Service:

Position will run throughout the year. Volunteer is expected to be available at least 4 hours per week, but may serve additional time if their availability and needs of the program allow it.

Lodging:

• Please note that housing is not available for this position

Tools, Equipment, & Vehicles:

• Basic hand tools (training will be provided on tools used within this position)

Location:

Specific location will vary, but will be limited to the various established trails within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

Qualifications:

• Ability to safely navigate trails within the park using designated park maps
• Effective communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal)
• Ability to hike over steep, uneven, rocky, and sometimes slippery terrain
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions to include cold and hot weather, rain, smoke, and snow

Uniform:

This is a uniformed position. VIP Program Manager will provide required uniform pieces and nametag.

• Equipment operation/tool use
• Slips, trips, and falls
• Adverse weather conditions (heat, sun exposure, thunderstorms)
• Environmental hazards (poison oak, wildlife/insect bites and stings, etc.)
