Mission Statement

Spellbinders Storytellers of Mesa County is a group of passionate volunteers trained in the art of oral storytelling. Spellbinders mission is to use the art of oral storytelling to enhance literacy, encourage character development and build intergenerational communities.

Description

If you enjoy children and stories, then this is the place for you! We have fun, we are part of a supportive and friendly group, we feel enriched and we are proud to be serving our community. For over 20 years, our chapter of the larger, national Spellbinders organization, has brought together the younger and older generations, enriching the lives of both! We tell stories in the age-old oral tradition to elementary age children in District 51. Each volunteer completes 12 hours of training with our nationally certified trainers, then adopts their own classroom(s), to which they return monthly throughout the school year. Our monthly workshops provide continued enrichment and support as well as a chance to socialize. Research has shown that storytelling benefits children in many proven ways and benefits the adult Spellbinder storytellers as well.
