ORGANIZATION: MAIN STREET MINISTRIES HOUSTON

Operation ID, a program through Main Street Ministries Houston, helps people in need obtain Texas ID's, drivers licenses, and birth certificates as a first step toward getting housing, jobs, and education. We need volunteers for a variety of needs, including interviewing clients and providing administrative experience. All training is provided. Operation ID is open Monday -Thursday and volunteers can commit to what works best for their schedules depending on the role, morning shifts work best. If you're looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of people in our community experiencing poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, reentry from incarceration, or escaping domestic violence, and want to be part of a fun and caring team of volunteers, contact Carrie Sadler at csadler@msmhouston.org or go to www.msmhouston.org to fill out a Volunteer Application. Main Street Ministries is located near the bus and train lines in the Museum District in Houston. Come join us!

Mission Statement

We are on a mission to build paths out of poverty empowered by the love of Jesus.

Description

Main Street Ministries Houston offers hope, support and resources to thousands of individuals and families each year who find themselves in a crisis situation and have the desire to make a change in their life. Our goal is to provide encouragement, education, and solutions that empower them to grow in their God-given potential and live stable, healthy lives. Our programs provide short-term basic needs support including assistance in obtaining government documents (driver's license, birth certificate, etc.), referrals to local resources, housing and employment support, and opportunities to grow personally and spiritually through networking, small group classes and ongoing encouragement. We also have a beautiful community garden which serves as a natural sanctuary in our urban setting that provides an incredible space for community building and healing. Volunteers work together year-round to grow vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers.
