Want to do something about hunger and food waste in your community? Food Rescue US makes it easy to volunteer on your own schedule!
Food Rescue US is committed to reducing food waste and food insecurity in America. Using a proprietary web-based app, the non-profit engages volunteers to transfer excess fresh food from grocers, restaurants, and other sources, to social service agencies that feed people who are food insecure. Food rescuers pick up surplus food from Food Donors (grocers, restaurants, etc.) and deliver it directly to local Receiving Agencies (community kitchens, food pantries, etc.) that feed our hungry neighbors - in your own vehicle and on your own time, it typically takes less than an hour to complete this incredibly rewarding and essential mission.
We are especially in need of volunteers to help us rescue from the Greensboro Farmers' Market on Saturdays. Farmers' market volunteers collect donations of unsold product from various vendors and deliver the bounty to nearby social service agencies. Farmers' market volunteers often become critical members of the market community.

Food Rescue US is committed to ending American food insecurity by directly transferring fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources to food insecure families throughout the U.S.

Food Rescue US exists as a platform for the rescue of healthy surplus food, to be direcctly transferred to those in need. Hunger is no longer just a challenge to the homeless and jobless, hunger happens near us; it happens to families we know, to people with jobs and homes who are trying desperately to make life work.

This platform is a toolbox of information and we focus on training, technology, and coordination to make volunteering and donating as simple and effective as possible. We're not saying that ending unnecessary hunger in our communities will be easy, but we do believe it's simple and that all of our efforts when combined form something substantial. In this case, since we began, that is over 17 million meals delivered and 28 million pounds of food saved from landfill.
