ORGANIZATION: Columbus Speech & Hearing

Halloween Hop is a free sensory-friendly Halloween experience for those children who need it most. The Speech Language Pathologists at Columbus Speech & Hearing (CSH) created the Halloween Hop event to educate families with children who have special needs on ways to provide speech-language enhancing strategies and sensory support within a safe, fun Halloween event. We’ve created a Halloween experience that eliminates scary decorations, minimizes challenges that children with special needs often face and encourages participation at each child’s own level and pace.

Halloween Hop is being held on Saturday, October 28th and will include activities such as a magician, interactive musician, character meet & greets, crafts, quiet room and trick-or-treat rooms with treats and small toys.

Mission Statement

To help people improve communication... for life!

Description

For many of us, communication is anything but easy. Speech, language and hearing problems affect 1 of every 10 people. The impact is profound at any age. Communication skills are critical to a young child’s development. Without help, these children simply don’t develop the skills they need to learn, to grow, to become productive. Hearing loss is a major factor affecting the health, wellness and quality of life of adults, as well. There is a clear connection between untreated hearing loss and social problems, including feelings of depression, social isolation, low self-esteem and difficulty functioning.

Columbus Speech & Hearing offers help - and hope. We believe that communication is what connects people to each other and to the world around them. We also believe that people with disabilities have the right to lead meaningful and independent lives. So when we help someone hear better or find a job or learn to express their thoughts and ideas through speech or sign language, we’ve made their world a better place. And ours, too.

CSH is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. We are currently one of the only providers in the area that accepts Medicaid, which makes our services crucial to those needing access to affordable hearing aids, speech therapy, and so much more. The proceeds we raise will support these services that so many people rely on but struggle to afford.
