ORGANIZATION: Los Angeles Team Mentoring

Who are we?: Los Angeles Team Mentoring focuses on guiding middle school students growing up in challenging urban environments to recognize and reach their full potential. Currently, we are partnered with nine different LAUSD schools as well as LAUSD’s Virtual Remote Learning Academy - City of Angeles.

How can YOU help?: Our team-based mentoring model gives you the opportunity to impact the lives of 12-15 students with the support of another adult mentor and our staff. As a mentor, you and your co-mentors will facilitate curriculum provided to you and discuss valuable life lessons learned during each session. Examples of these activities include topics in career readiness, self-esteem and confidence building, maintaining healthy relationships, and resolving conflicts/ disagreements.

All meetings with the kids are conducted virtually from the comfort of your home or office! All you need is a laptop with a camera and internet access!

What perks do we offer?: Not only will you be able to make a difference in the lives of our youth, you will also have the opportunity of building your resume and gain real- world experience . You will also have the opportunity to network with other professional, corporate mentors who are partnered with LATM. LATM will happily write a letter of recommendation upon your request. This is a GREAT opportunity if you are looking to be in the education, psychology, sociology, social work or child development field.

What will YOUR impact be?: This will be the fourth year we offer our virtual mentoring program. Our youth continue to need positive role models now more than ever. You can be part of this historic virtual mentoring move! Despite not being a tutoring program, our mentored youth are more likely to graduate from high school, go to college, and receive higher grades compared to non-mentored youth. An hour of your time once a week can make all the difference!

More details: This is a weekly commitment on Monday through Friday between the hours of 3:00pm - 6:45pm. Sessions are 1-hour long. Our program will last from November 2024 - June 2025.
