The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about serving the community to join the team as an Ontario Promise Corps Youth Mentor. This position provides mentoring to students (10yrs-15yrs), and information/resources to assist with higher education attainment; establishes positive connections with students and their families; and performs other related work as necessary.

This position is grant-funded. While this position will work alongside the City of Ontario, it is NOT considered a City of Ontario position. Therefore, the successful incumbents will not be considered City employees and are not eligible for City-sponsored benefits. In lieu of City-sponsored benefits, successful incumbents are eligible for a program-funded benefit package that includes healthcare, childcare (space is limited), and mileage reimbursement for the duration of their assignment. An Education Award (valued up to $10,000) is awarded to those incumbents who successfully complete all required service hours.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ontario Promise Corps program is to provide services that contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged children and youth, and to support economically disadvantaged students as they prepare for success in post-secondary educational institutions. The program seeks to achieve this by: (i) improving school readiness, literacy and the social-emotional skills needed to succeed in kindergarten; (ii) providing mentorship to build social-emotional development; and (iii) increasing access to college resources and information.

Description

  • HS Diploma or equivalent; must have reliable transportation and be able and willing to travel locally as needed; willing to work evenings & weekends as required; maintain regular attendance; successfully complete a Live Scan fingerprint review.
