ALAMEDA COUNTY YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE NEED MENTORS!

WHY?
Many youth in foster care do not have a trusting, caring adult in their lives that are not part of the system. Statistically the youth are more likely to be more successful academically, socially and mentally.

WHO?
We want mentors that come from all different backgrounds, ages and genders. We want caring adults are willing to build a caring and non judgmental with a foster youth.

WHAT?
Mentors spend a minimum of 2 hours per week for A 1 YEAR FIRM COMMITMENT with their mentee. The hope is that this relationship will continue for many years!

Be A Mentor, Inc. was formed in April 1992 as a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit agency. We provide proven and sustainable mentoring programs for agencies by recruiting, training and matching adult volunteers who wish to mentor youth. Description

The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and volunteer their personal time to be a caring friend to a youth. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.

  • Driver's License Needed
  • Background Check

  • Orientation or Training
  • One Year for 2 hours per week, minimum. This is done on the mentor/mentee time. There is no set days nor set times that we require. You, your mentee and the foster parent decide on days and times of meetings.
  • Be open minded, curious, non judgmental and wanting to positively impact a child. MUST LIVE IN ALAMEDA COUNTY
