Animal Care Technicians:
ACTs are all around care givers trained in all aspects of cage care, cleaning, maintenance and dietary needs for all the animals and all stages of their lives. As an ACT you will be required to complete an 8 step training program and be present 4 hours per week to remain current in our volunteer program. This is a moderate to heavy physically strenuous position and you are welcome to modify certain parts of the duty requirements to fit your personal physical abilities. You play one of the most crucial roles and a vital part to saving lives at Opie Acres.

3 Shifts

  • evening / 07:00 PM to 11:00 PM EST
  • afternoon / 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM EST
  • morning / 08:00 AM to 11:45 AM EST
    Volunteers are trained and get to have an active role in caring for Tennessee’s wild lives!

Mission Statement

Opie Acres mission is to give life saving medical care to ill, injured and orphaned Virginia Opossums and other wildlife in the state of Tennessee. Our purpose is to seek out those creatures that would otherwise be ignored, forgotten or improperly cared for and give them the highest level of care possible. Our goal is first to do no harm. Second, to give life saving care, third to end suffering. Then finally, and most importantly, to educate the public on the true nature and benefit of this remarkable, helpful and ancient animal. Opie Acres is permitted for rehabilitation by TWRA and for education by TWRA and USDA.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Auxiliary Volunteers:
Auxiliary Volunteers typically can commit to an hour or two a week to help with supply acquisition, dishwashing, food preparation, laundry or minor grounds keeping. These positions are a vital support role to the Animal Care Technicians.

Group Volunteer Opportunities
Groups are welcome to reach out to Opie Acres regarding service projects that are an ongoing need at Opie Acres.

Animal Care Technicians:
ACTs are all around care givers trained in all aspects of cage care, cleaning, maintenance and dietary needs for all the animals and all stages of their lives. As an ACT you will be required to complete an 8 step training program and be present 4 hours per week to remain current in our volunteer program. This is a moderate to heavy physically strenuous position and you are welcome to modify certain parts of the duty requirements to fit your personal physical abilities. Typical commitments are at least one four hour shift a week. As a technician, you are one of the most vital positions to saving wild lives and keeping Opie Acres running.
