Would you like to put your facilitation skills to good use? Want to give back? or maybe you are retired and are looking at making difference in the lives of underserved immigrant families.


Edu-Futuro's GED program is aimed at adults who wish to obtain their GED certificate.

We need volunteers for the next cycle of the program. This will be a very rewarding opportunity for any Spanish speaker who enjoys teaching or needs to fulfill credits to finish their graduate studies. This program, delivered in Spanish, provides students 18 years and older who did not complete their high school education with an opportunity to earn their high school equivalency diploma.

Below are the GED volunteer role descriptions and requirements:

1. GED Instructor/Co-host: You will lead 2.5-hour virtual classes on Zoom throughout the duration of the module. Depending on your availability, you can choose from the following days and times:

Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays: 5:30pm - 8:00pm

2. GED Weekly Virtual Mentorship: You will offer 1-hour virtual group mentoring at any given week throughout the duration of the module.
Tuesdays: 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Duties:

- Teach GED Language Arts preparation curriculum in Spanish

- Utilize a variety of effective teaching strategies to engage and motivate adult learners

- Adapt instruction based on summative and formative assessments to prepare students to pass the Spanish GED Language Arts exam

Module's length: 13 weeks (June 12th - September 4th)

Class meets 3 times a week:

Tue, Thu (6:00pm - 8:30pm)

Sat (10:00am - 12:30pm)

Location: Remote (via Zoom)

  • Operaciones con fracciones (Operations with fractions)

  • Razones, tasas y proporciones (Ratios, rates and proportions)

  • Los porcentajes y sus aplicaciones (Percentages and their applications)

  • La recta numérica y los números negativos (The number line and negative numbers)

  • Probabilidad y cálculos (Probability and calculations)

  • La estadística y el análisis de datos (Statistics and data analysis)

  • Expresiones algebraicas (Algebraic expressions)

  • Resolución de ecuaciones y desigualdades (Solving equations and inequalities)

  • Representación gráfica de ecuaciones (Graphical representation of equations)

  • Funciones (Functions)

  • Geometría (Geometry)

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with immigrant adults in a classroom environment

  • Must have thorough knowledge of Mathematics

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish): reading, writing, speaking

  • Access to a computer and internet

  • Webcam and mic required

  • Must have at least an Associate Degree (Bachelor's preferred)

Training will be provided before the program and throughout as needed.

Description

Edu-Futuro is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Bolivian parents and educators to address the educational needs of the growing Latino population. We offer programs that empower immigrant families through education. We offer: the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) which is a youth leadership and college preparation program for Grades 9-12 ; we offer STEM/Robotics for upper elementary and middle school students (6th, 7th, 8th grade); as well as parent and family programs, to include case management services, parent empowerement and and workforce development programs. And we welcome volunteers in all our programs!
