What is Pass Down the Gown?

We are a female run, 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides free prom dresses nationwide. Our founder, Ruby Franzen, saw a gap and opportunity to grow the formal event experience. Young women (including herself) were buying formal dresses, only to wear them once and then set aside in their closets. Since inception, Pass Down The Gown has been collecting theses dresses to allow anyone to rent them for free.

What's the opportunity?

Looking for a high school students to assist Pass Down The Gown with growing our brand, assisting with social media, finding products for our website, fundraising, events, and curating partnerships. This is a remote or hybrid opportunity for people looking to gain experience in a nonprofit. Our volunteer positions are typically a 5-10 hour monthly commitment. Let us know what you can bring to the table and we will be happy to have you!

What would a month at Pass Down The Gown look like?

Each month, volunteers are given a monthly checklist outlining tasks to accomplish on their own time. Some common tasks include, attending company meeting, planning an event (i.e photoshoot, fundraiser, pop-up, dress drive, to name a few), hang flyers, and manage a social media platform (we have tiktok, instagram, and facebook). All of our volunteers are matched with a board member/mentor who are current working professionals that can provide support with volunteering, college/job applications, school, and career advice.

Description

We are a female run, 501(c)(3) non-profit based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Our founder, Ruby Franzen, saw a gap and opportunity to grow the formal event experience. Young women (including herself) were buying formal dresses, only to wear them once and have them be set aside in their closets. Since inception, Pass Down the Gown has been collecting theses dresses to allow anyone to rent them for free. What started out a a rack of dresses in a basement has grown into a sustainable nonprofit, serving 100+ through volunteer service and donations. Our hope is that as Pass Down The Gown grows, people use us as a more eco-friendly and affordable option for event shopping!
