Work in teams of two to help make wishes come true. This involves interviewing the child and family to determine the wish, working with staff to help fulfill the wish, helping the child stay engaged while waiting for the wish to happen and throwing a wish party when the wish is granted. Time commitment varies, depending on the type of wish and number of wishes you are involved with. The wish interview and granting almost always take place in the evening or on a weekend. We are looking for volunteers who can make a long-term commitment (minimum of two years).

This position requires virtual and in-person involvement.
Questions? Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Hannah Morgan at hmorgan@midatlantic.wish.org.

About Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic

Location:

6555 Rock Spring Dr., STE 280, Bethesda, MD 20817, US

Mission Statement

Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is a non-profit organization that fulfills the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Foundation serves children who reside in Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William Counties as well as city of Alexandria), and Delaware.

Description

Founded in 1983, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic has fulfilled the wishes of more than 4,500 children fighting illnesses such as Cancer, Pediatric AIDS, Cystic Fibrosis, Duchene's Muscular Dystrophy and heart disease. A wish fulfilled creates a memorable experience for a child fighting a life-threatening medical condition and gives him or her something positive to think about instead of medical treatments and hospital visits. Recent wishes include visiting Walt Disney World Resort, taking a family vacation to Australia, receiving a home computer and having a bedroom redecorated. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is affiliated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
