While we know a shelter can never compare to home, our in-kennel enrichment volunteers make our dogs' stay at BARCS a little more enjoyable. By preparing and distributing tasty treats and toys, you can help stimulate their minds and keep them busy and happy. Some examples of treats that we make for our canine buddies include frozen peanut butter kongs, frozen puzzle feeders, frozen ice buckets, pupcakes, dog donuts, snuffle mats, and more! We try to give a treat to every dog every afternoon - since BARCS usually has around 100 dogs in residence at any time, we're always making more enrichment treats!

Help this important program by creating and prepare treats in the morning or late afternoon, and/or being every dog's BFF by giving out treats and toys around 2 p.m. on weeks days and around noon on weekends.

Volunteers are the heart of BARCS. Without their time, talents and resources, we would not be able to save the lives of over 10,000 animals each year. Whether you have a free day on the weekend or an occasional hour after work, there is a place for you at BARCS. Join us today to help change an animal’s life forever. With your commitment and assistance, we will work together to make the organization successful in promoting animal welfare, providing lifesaving resources to our community, and giving shelter animals some much-needed love and attention.

About Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS)

Location:

2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225, US

Mission Statement

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) is a nonprofit shelter that accepts and cares for all animals in need and promotes responsible pet ownership for a more humane community in Baltimore City. We are an open admission shelter that grants refuge to more than 10,000 animals a year regardless of age, health or history of abuse and neglect.

Description

BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch. Yearly, this equates to more than 10,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and even wildlife and exotic animals that need care and placement.

Each year, BARCS is growing, evolving and working to implement new innovative programs that benefit animals in need and the neighborhoods that support them.
