The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) harnesses the experience and skills of mature adults to address the extreme poverty in the New Orleans regional area. Ignatian Volunteers - women and men age 50 and older - donate one or two days of service per week for ten months each year. They are supported and sustained by IVC's unique spiritual reflection program, including monthly gatherings with fellow service corps members.

Mission Statement

The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) harnesses the expertise of individuals over 50 who have the passion and commitment to direct their attention to issues impacting their region. Service Corps Members use their time and experience to give back and make a difference. They are leaders of change, offering vital resources to organizations, churches and schools that are at the heart of these struggling communities. Through their direct service among the materially poor, members enter the lived experience of others, showing respect for the dignity and equality of those they serve and serve with.

Description

IVC works in partnership with hundreds of community partner organizations. These nonprofit organizations provide IVC Service Corps Members with substantive work to serve individuals who have slipped through this country’s safety net. And hundreds of community organizations are on waiting lists to get an IVC corps member.

IVC corps members are supported in their Christian faith by IVC’s unique spiritual reflection program. Through their caring service and the relationships they build, members heal communities and create a more just society.
