Mission Statement
Emerge helps organizations launch local food systems to reduce poverty with dignity. We use the science and efficiency of aquaponics farming to provide nutritious food, jobs, and income to communities around the world.
Description
Emerge has been developing aquaponic systems for over 10 years for organizations in the States and around the world. Aquaponics is an organic farming system that circulates wastewater from aquaculture (fish) to fertilize hydroponically grown plants. The plants draw nutrients from the waste and filter the water, allowing for its recycled use by the fish. Aquaponics use up to 90% less water than traditional farming and can grow up to 10x the amount of vegetables in the same amount of space.
Emerge operates a commercial aquaponic greenhouse in Black Forest and uses it for training and development. The organic lettuce we grow is sold to local restaurants and businesses and donated to local organizations combating food insecurity in our area.
