ORGANIZATION: Center for Independent Living in Central Florida, Inc

To promote independence for youth of all abilities, CIL hosts Career Camp during school breaks. CIL partners with local companies, nonprofits, community resources, and educational institutions. These partnerships provide opportunity for students to experience the process of employment, from interview to training, and develop skillsets to enhance their future independence. Career Camp Volunteers support CIL staff by working directly with youth camp participants to ensure a quality, hands on learning experience.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to volunteer for a minimum of 30 hours, unpaid
  • Be flexible and understanding.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from the Lakeland Institute for Learning
  • Submit to a level 2 background screening and be approved prior to start of volunteer shift
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferred but not required

Serving Central Florida since 1976, the Center for Independent Living (CIL) is the only local nonprofit dedicated solely to helping individuals with disabilities achieve independence. We believe everyone has a right to dignity and respect. Our work is based on the philosophy of people with disabilities empowering one another in an environment of support and acceptance.
