The Sharp Experience. It is what makes Sharp different from other providers. We focus on patient centered care and that is exactly how volunteers make a difference every shift here at Sharp Metro Campus. Patient and Family-Centered Care is responsive to priorities, preferences, and values of patients and their families.

As a volunteer, you will assist caregivers with patients and family members while gaining valuable hospital experience.Sharp Memorial Hospital has currentPlanetree designation for patient-centered care and MAGNET designation for nursing excellence.

We are actively recruiting for our Nursing Units at Sharp Metro Campus (Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital). Between those two hospitals we have 14 nursing units that are available to new volunteers!

How Volunteers Make A Difference

  • Escorting patients and family members
  • Rounding on patients
  • Delivering to Lab, Blood Bank and Pharmacy
  • Organizing and restocking supplies and rooms
  • Disinfecting high contact areas
  • Delivering blankets, drinks and snacks
  • Helping staff move patients in/out of bed
  • Transferring equipment
  • Assembling charts
  • Answering phones and providing information
  • Assisting patients when being discharged to go home!
As you can expect, all nursing units complete the above-mentioned tasks. The difference between floors is the demographic of patients that they are supporting (ie Mary Birch Hospital will be assisting expectant moms or new moms).

Volunteers do have the opportunity to transfer to new nursing units after they complete 75 hours! This will provide volunteers with the opportunity to learn about new departments and teams for career exploration.

*All volunteers receive a $6 meal credit in the cafeteria during their shift.*
