Community Relations
Internship (6 months) - 10 hrs/week. 240 hours. Understand the basics of 'customer service' and 'customer communications' through this real-world experience internship. Learn a new skill and practice it while building the archive.
Internship Time Period
SIX MONTHS POSITION: Position opens twice a year. Intern needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 6 months commitment.
TWO MONTHS POSITIONS: Position opens only for the summer. Intern needs to commit a minimum of 30 hours each week. Minimum 2 months commitment.

Job Description
- The communication intern will be an integral member of the Communications Team, responsible for supporting the Communication Manager and executing mainly The Archive’s communications but not limited to it.
- You have to maintain communications between interviewees and interviewers for The 1947 Partition Archive’s oral history program via extensive telephonic, email and text based communications.
- Manage first through final contact between interviewers and interviewees before and after interviews
- Make follow up phone calls to interviewees after an interview, and quality control check.
- Establish and manage new systems for documenting full records of communications with interviewee and interviewer.
- Respond to queries from the interviewees
- Report your daily progress to the Communications Manager and the global team
Job Requirements
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. English should be strong.
- Proficiency with Google Sheets and Docs.
- Applicant should be enthusiastic, articulate, and professional.
- Good understanding of communicating with elderly people.
- Detailed planning, time management and organizational skills.
- Positive, proactive and able to always exercise great judgement and common sense.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing and new responsibilities.
Specific Requirements
- Communication Intern India: The applicant should have sound knowledge of Punjabi and/or Bengali.
- Communication Intern Pakistan: The applicant should have sound knowledge of Sindhi, Urdu or Punjabi.
- Communication Intern USA : The applicant should have sound knowledge of English and/or Hindi.
- Communication Intern UK : The applicant should have sound knowledge of English and/or Hindi.
Internship Expectations
Make connections, build rapport, listen! Communication, defined as the sharing of ideas and information, is a cornerstone of The 1947 Partition Archive. Only serious interns may apply to this position. Interns are expected to develop ownership of their projects and encouraged to develop creative solutions. Intern must have a strong passion for and dedication to our mission and goals. Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as guaranteed references for successfully completing their internship term. This internship is unpaid but interns may apply for credit or funding through their college or university. Successful interns, at the end of their tenure, may be considered for any paid positions that are available.
All interns will be working remotely.
