Volunteers assist older people with non-emergency technology troubleshooting. Tasks may include troubleshooting Internet connections, setting up new devices, problems with email, installing applications, printer/scanner problems, password retrieval, etc. Ideal volunteers will be excellent communicators, keen observers, patient, and enjoy working with older people. Times of service are mutually agreed upon by the volunteer and resident. Volunteers complete a background check and training, and receive ongoing supervision. Description
St. Louis NORC supports the healthy aging of older adults in their own homes by providing information and assistance, education, home safety modifications/repairs, supportive services, friendly visiting/calls, and socialization to older adults to ensure that they can live safely and independently in their homes for as long as possible. Four editions of NORC's newsletter were distributed to 1,300 households (1,800 individual residents) to promote community resources that enhance health, safety and wellbeing , and to highlight members, volunteers and local business offering discounts to members. Volunteers provided more than 85 hours of in-home repair and technology assistance to 43 households.
